The Morseville Bridge

carries Burt Road across the Flint River in Taymouth Township, Saginaw County. It was constructed in 1885 by the Smith Bridge Company of Toledo, Ohio, the fifth most prolific metal truss bridge company in terms of Michigan bridges. This is the oldest surviving example of the firm's work. The Morseville Bridge has unusual decorative end posts, a distinctive feature of only a few metal through trusses of the era.

The Sterling Road Bridge on Sterling Road over the St. Joseph River to Lenawee County, MI. It is one of the early examples of the Michigan work of the Smith Bridge Company of Toledo, Ohio. It is particularly notable because of the ornamental details on its portal cross bracing.

A set of four finials came from a bridge without the overhead superstructure. The maker is not know for sure but the photos above have a similar designed finial.

This picture of an overhead Smith Bridge was provided by Todd Lower of Toledo.
